Senior Pet and Palliative Care

We offer specialized support to enhance your pet’s quality of life as they age, providing dignity in end-of-life care to prevent pain and suffering. We’ll help arrange aftercare to honor your beloved companion after their passing.

Our Aging Companions: What to Expect

Caring for your pet as they grow older is a privilege to our team at Valley Veterinary Center. We’re here to help with the unique challenges of their golden years, offering advanced technology and palliative care to support their well-being. We’re available to discuss any concerns about your pet’s quality of life, including when it might be time to say goodbye, one of the hardest parts of pet companionship.

When It’s Time to Say Goodbye

We offer a quality-of-life exam to help you decide if euthanasia is the most compassionate option. Our experienced veterinarians provide guidance to ensure you feel confident and supported in your decision. If euthanasia is chosen, we ensure a calm, compassionate experience. You’ll have time to say goodbye, with us walking you through each step. We administer a sedative to keep your pet relaxed and pain-free before providing an injection that stops their heart. Our veterinarian will listen to their heart to confirm your pet has passed away peacefully.

Aftercare Options for Your Pet

Whether your pet passes at home or in our care, we provide several aftercare choices. Having a plan can bring comfort in difficult times. We offer cremation services, clay paw prints, and ink paw or nose prints through Abbey Glen Pet Aftercare.

In-Home Euthanasia

We understand the special bond that you develop with your pet and that you may prefer to say goodbye to them in the comfort of your own home. Due to our schedule, this service is only offered for current clients in Pennsylvania who live within 5 miles of the clinic. Appointment times are limited & additional fees apply.
Alternatively, we are able to provide information on reputable local in-home euthanasia veterinarians.

Coping with Pet Loss

Pets are family and losing them comes with the same grief as any other loss.
If you’re struggling with grief following the loss of your pet, remember to:

Give yourself time to mourn and cry
Do your best to stick to your regular routine
Talk about your feelings with family, friends, or even our hospital staff
Memorialize your pet in a way that’s special to you
